The civil war in Syria, which has been fought on many fronts for years, has caused countless human and financial tragedies.
Many people have fled from the atrocities of war, others lament the loss of loved ones and their property. The result is severe trauma.
The number of internally displaced persons in Syria and Iraq is about 8 million. The aim of the developed project “Family Centre” is to offer as many people as possible a perspective for the future and to enable them to stay in their home country.
The location of the family centre is in the province of Al-Hassaka, which is currently home to approximately 450,000 internally displaced persons. The facility’s target groups are women, children, elderly people and people with disabilities.
Women who have lost their husbands in the war receive psychological care through trained therapists and discussion groups. In addition, traumatised children are offered psychological care, for example in the form of painting therapy to help them come to terms with their trauma.
Other services offered by the facility include literacy, language and tutoring courses. Furthermore, there is the possibility to offer first aid courses. An in-house kitchen supports needy families by providing one hot meal per day.
