Medical care – Iraq
Following the devastating fire at a wedding celebration in Hamdaniyah, Nineveh Plains, on September 27, 2023, the Beth Nahrain Organization for Women (BNOW) has been providing continuous medical and psychological support to affected families. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, emergency medical supplies were delivered to treat burn injuries, and hospital visits were coordinated to ensure timely and adequate care.
Building on this emergency response, throughout 2024 we continued supporting survivors by providing medical assistance to 90 families and financing three laser treatments for individuals recovering from severe burn injuries. BNOW’s dedicated team conducts regular follow-up visits, offering essential medication, wound care, and psychological support—recognizing that healing extends far beyond physical recovery.
This long-term initiative reflects our sustained commitment to helping families rebuild their lives and regain hope after profound loss.
“Burns heal slowly. Emotional wounds heal even slower.”
Health & Medical Aid
Our commitment to providing life-saving medical care remains unwavering, particularly in regions where conflict, economic hardship, and displacement severely limit access to healthcare. In 2024, we advanced two major initiatives: the distribution of essential medicines and the funding of critical surgeries in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as the continued operation of the Syriac Cross Medical Clinic in Northeast Syria.
Medicine Distribution and Life-Saving Surgeries
Access to essential healthcare is fundamental to preserving the dignity, stability, and continuity of our Christian communities. Many families are unable to afford medical treatment and are often forced to choose between seeking care abroad or enduring deteriorating health conditions. By providing vital medical assistance, we enable vulnerable individuals to remain in their homeland, strengthen community resilience, and prevent further displacement. Healthcare not only saves lives—it safeguards the future of these ancient communities on their ancestral lands.
